LYRICS
--------------------

Working under ground is so hard,
it's not something for the feint of heart.
You might be one of twenty nine,
killed in a Virginia coal mine.

Can't see the Horizon no more.
That rig's burned, it lies on the ocean floor.
Eleven men their lives are lost,
but who can know the final cost?

Coal and oil have had their time,
our children's children will be asking why,
with all that we knew and all of the signs,
we didn't do more with the wind and the sunshine.

Take the top off a mountain or sink a well,
climate change is earth's death knell.
Fossil fuels will not last,
we must stop living in the past!

People of the world,
let's use our imagination.
we're stalled in a slick of stagnation.
We need to
WAKE UP,
CLEAN UP
respect creation.
We need new fuels to power our nations.

Coal and oil have had their time,
our children's children will be asking why.
with all that we knew and all of the signs,
we didn't do more with the wind and the sunshine.

Coal and oil have had their time,
our children's children won't understand why
with all that we knew and all of the signs,
we didn't do more with the wind and the sunshine.

We could do more with the wind and the sunshine.
We could do so much more with the wind and the sunshine.

about

Pete Solomon Santa Cruz, California

In 2010, as the Horizon oil spill dragged on, I was compelled to write this song. It sat in a virtual closet for almost four years and then all of a sudden needed to be out and so here it is.
Special thanks to Amanda for her support and to all of the musicians for their energy and commitment. I am so grateful.
Special thanks also to Tara Kelton for the awesome video.
